If you give a mom an hour, she will probably want to sit down and relax.
But, before she does that, she will probably want a cup of tea.
As she goes for her tea, she sees the half put together pot of chili and remembers she needs to finish it.
As she finishes the chili, she sees the giant pile of dishes in the sink and decides to wash the dishes while the water warms for her tea.
As she is doing the dishes, she sees there are no towels hanging on the stove and this reminds her that the towels need to be put in the drier.
As she goes to put the towels in the drier she trips over the box she bought to organize all her instruction booklets that have piled up over the years.
She goes to organize her booklets as she hears the tea kettle whistling.
She runs upstairs to pour her cup of tea so she can sit and relax.
While the tea seeps, she decides to finish the dishes that are soaking in the water.
As she is doing the dishes, she sees the mail man drive by and wants to go check the mail.
But, before she goes to check the mail, she decides to pay a couple of bills to take them to the mailbox.
When she goes for the checkbook, she sees that she needs to reorder her checks.
When she goes online to order her checks, she gets distracted by e-mail, facebook, blogging, and thinks, "oh a cup of tea would be nice while I am sitting here at the computer."
When she goes to get her tea, she realizes, the water is cold, the dishes are still in the sink, the bills are half payed, the instruction books are all over the floor with good intention to be organized, the towels still need to go in the drier, so she turns on the tea kettle and waits for the whistle..........
"Mommy, I have to go to the bathroom." And nap time is over.
I sit here laughing at myself. Maybe one day I will quit getting so distracted and finish something before I move onto something else. Maybe that is why peope have lists. Check one thing off before moving to the next. Welp, off to play with my kids, the dishes, laundry, organizing, bills, and tea will have to wait til the kids go to bed.
